Types of e-Certs

HKPCA, as a recognized Certification Authority, offers the following types of recognised certificates to individuals and organisations in Hong Kong:

A) Hongkong Post e-Cert

Hongkong Post e-Cert (Personal)

Hongkong Post e-Cert (Personal) certificate is issued to individuals who have a Hong Kong identity card. These certificates may be used to perform commercial operations which require the use of digital signatures of an individual. e-Cert (Personal) certificates may be issued to persons under 18 who have a Hong Kong identity card, but the certificate will display the word "e-Cert (Personal/Minor)".

Hongkong Post e-Cert (Organisational)

Hongkong Post e-Cert (Organisational) certificate is issued to Bureaux and Departments of the Government of the HKSAR, organisations that hold a valid business registration certificate issued by the Government of the HKSAR and statutory bodies of Hong Kong whose existence is recognized by the laws of Hong Kong; and identifies a Subscriber Organisation's member or employee (the "Authorised Users") who has been duly authorised to use that e-Cert (Organisational) certificate. These certificates may be used to perform commercial operations which require the use of digital signatures of the Authorised Users.

Hongkong Post e-Cert (Encipherment)

Hongkong Post e-Cert (Encipherment) certificate is issued to Bureaux and Departments of the Government of the HKSAR, organisations that hold a valid business registration certificate issued by the Government of the HKSAR and statutory bodies of the HKSAR whose existence is recognized by the laws of the HKSAR (a "Subscriber Organisation"). Such a certificate is designed to be used by such units of the Subscriber Organisation ("the Authorised Units") which has been authorised to use that e-Cert (Encipherment) certificate.

Hongkong Post e-Cert (Server)

Hongkong Post e-Cert (Server) certificate is issued to Bureaux and Departments of the Government of the HKSAR, organisations that hold a valid business registration certificate issued by the Government of the HKSAR and statutory bodies of Hong Kong whose existence is recognized by the laws of the HKSAR; and that wish to have a certificate issued in a server name owned by that organisation.

B) Hongkong Post Bank-Cert

Hongkong Post Bank-Cert (Shanghai Commercial Bank - Personal)

Hongkong Post Bank-Cert (Personal) certificates are issued to individuals who have a Hong Kong identity card (age 18 or over) and are customers of banks acting as Registration Authorities ("RAs"). These certificates may be used to perform Internet banking services and other commercial operations. Applicants have to contact the RA directly for Bank-Cert application. However, for revocation request, subscribers can contact HKPCA directly or the RA identified in the certificate within the business hours of the RA as stated in the Bank-Cert Certification Practice Statement (Bank-Cert CPS). Hongkong Post CA provides Central Key Generation service to generate the key pairs and certificate on behalf of subscribers.

Hongkong Post Bank-Cert (Shanghai Commercial Bank - Corporate)

Hongkong Post Bank-Cert (Corporate) certificates are issued to organisations that hold a valid business registration certificate issued by the Government of the HKSAR and statutory bodies of Hong Kong whose existence is recognized by the laws of Hong Kong (a "Subscriber Organisation"); and identifies a Subscriber Organisation's member or employee (an "Authorised Users") who has been duly authorised to use that Bank-Cert (Corporate) certificate. The Subscriber Organisations are customers of banks acting as Registration Authorities ("RAs"). These certificates may be used to perform Internet banking services and other commercial operations. Applicants have to contact the RA directly for Bank-Cert application. However, for revocation request, Subscriber can contact Hongkong Post CA directly or the RA identified in the certificate within the business hours of the RA as stated in the Bank-Cert Certification Practice Statement (Bank-Cert CPS). Hongkong Post CA provides Central Key Generation service to generate the key pairs and certificate on behalf of the Subscribers.
